I Love the Statistics Department!

I've decided that the stats department at UC Davis is the best department because they feed us students ALL the time. Every Tuesday and Thursdays, we can find refreshments like fruits, vegetable platters, crackers with cheese and cold cut meats, chips, salsa, lemonade, iced tea, cookies...the list goes on and on...at the stats lounge. Yes, we have our very own lounge! As a college student that's too busy to cook but too broke to buy food, this is awesome! Okay, I guess I should give credit to the faculty as well, since most of them are good people and very nice to students. But food! Nothing speaks to me the way food does.

We just had a Holiday Party today, and the department catered food and drinks (even alcoholic ones) for all the students in the department. 

This is my plate with food piled on like a true kiasu Malaysian. Vegetable samosas with mango sauce dip, chicken skewers, pita bread with hummus, cherry tomatoes (to trick myself that I'm still eating healthy), kebab skewers, spring rolls, cubed cheese etc. There was also dessert! And yeah, this wasn't my only plate. Hehehehe.

There was some form of a program, not super well thought out though, like White Elephant, Guess-that-Faculty member, and karaoke. LoL, weird I know. But I guess the department wanted to create an atmosphere that will allow students and professors alike to form relationships beyond the strict student-teacher ones that are typical at large institutions like UC's.

It was interesting to see professors singing and just laughing away, given how they always try to appear very professional in front of a large class of at least a hundred students. They somehow seem more "human" and not just some walking encyclopedias. Hahaha, I shouldn't call them that, but that's how they seem to me whenever they teach.

Overall a fun time! Looking forward to the Spring events like the spring picnic. Oh yeah, there are way more events than just this. Stats people sure know how to party, and you thought we were boring, eh? Or maybe it's because no one likes us at parties so we form our own parties. XD I'll leave that up to you to decide.
