House warming...I mean, warming up the house with baking.
The house is still a mess as I type this. Boxes are either sitting in the garage or strewn everywhere around the house only half emptied because we haven't ordered any new storage furniture to replace the ones we tossed. But guess what I'm doing? Baking a cake, and the whole kitchen is smelling like warm cake batter. I'm not sure if this oven is leaking too much heat, or if it's just hotter than the one I had, or both. The kitchen is getting so warm.
Anyway, I really should be unpacking but we're celebrating John and Mike's birthday tonight, so instead of organizing the kitchen, I only pulled out the baking items to make John's fave cake. XD
Okay lah, the kitchen is organized for the MOST part. Although the new kitchen is much roomier, there are less storage spaces so I couldn't find a way to fit all my appliances. How ironic. I also want to give Hannah a huge shout out for being a HUGE help during the move. She originally came to visit as a "holiday" but ended up painting, packing, moving, unloading, unpacking, organizing, and going house shopping with us instead. Hahaha. At least it was an eventful visit! I am so grateful for her timely visit (although she probably deems it untimely) because I just know John and I wouldn't be able to get very much done without her. Hannah and I are pretty much on the same wavelength when it comes to organizing and prioritizing duties/chores, so we can go through lists very quickly and with minimal communication or arguments. John and I, on the other hand, spend more time arguing than getting the job done. Hahaha.

Okay, so I had to get ready and was running late for dinner. I left this post hanging. But I'm back for the night! The cake turned out to be a lot more moist than my previous attempts! Maybe the oven here is better here after all.

The only problem was that we didn't know how to bring the box to the restaurant to celebrate because we don't have a cake box. I went to the closest bakery (Food Maxx) and they only had a donut box, which did not work since the cake was too tall. We ended up using a giant container Irving used to store rice in from before, but he didn't need it anymore and gave it to us. (Thanks, Irving! Even though you have no idea what I'm talking about.)
John and Hannah found it too embarrassing to bring it to the waiter, but I'm very thick-skinned so I just handed the giant box over and said, "We have a cake but we didn't have box. Can you put this in your fridge?" Hahahaha. So paiseh lah. The box is probably two cake sizes big, but whatever lah. We got to dinner at 9pm so I'm sure there is fridge space by then! Not many customers eat out that late after all. Glad I brought it cuz everyone liked it and we got to sing them the birthday song.
Anyway, happy birthday dear husband. I can't believe you're 27 already. You're nearing the end of your 20s! Can't believe 6 years flew by just like that. It still feels like you were 21 just a year ago when I met you. We were such kids back then! And yet we thought we were old. I bet our 30++ year old selves will snort when they read this post with baby in arm. Hahaha. That day is creeping by a lot faster than we thought it would. Remember when you told me you wanted to be a young father? Well, we're not really in the "young parents" category anymore. Just average. And yet we're still not ready with me being in school and all lol.
I know you're sad that every birthday that has passed recently seems to get less and less enthusiastic now that everyone's lives is so busy and we're all so physically distant from each other, but that's not always going to be the case. We'll eventually build a family of our own and parties will be hectic again (for me at least) hahaha. Let's enjoy the peace and quiet while we can. Here's to another year of good health, good work and home life balance, and good marriage.
I love you. May we celebrate many more birthdays together through thick or thin.
