Am So Glad I'm Not a Teacher

I really dislike team projects.

Maybe I'm not a team player type. But it's just more than that...most people who vote for team projects aren't team-ish people as well~ they're just leeches!

Have you ever encountered such people before? In every group project, there's bound to be someone, AT LEAST ONE lazy bum who'd just SIT there and do nothing to help the project in any way - except fail.

Heck, it's good enough if they'd even sit there. Some don't even show up! Seriously pisses you off.

What I really hate is that they love to choose group work and group quizzes just so they can get the A's hardworking students put effort into while they don't even lift a finger, or their heads from the table. -_-"

I don't mind if they simply don't care about the grade and allow you to kick 'em out of the group. But I DO mind if they insist on an A when they're not even helping.

It's a good thing my teacher is firm enough to force all of them to write a sentence each for the essay quiz. Since the essay consists of a topic sentence, a thesis statement and several examples for the thesis statement, everyone has a different part to do...and they argued about it. I mean, please, you willingly chose teamwork hor, then willingly do it as a team can or not? But nooo....still arguing. It took like more than one and a half hours just to complete a pathetic essay of 25 sentences - and each of them only had to write one!

Since I was in charge of the spelling, I had to wait for them to finish their essay. I waited a freaking one and half hour or more just for that dumb essay to be completed. During that time, we were not allowed to leave the classroom or even our places...eh, I needed to go the the bathroom ler~yet they still take their sweet time writing!

And so, after waiting for eternity, they finally finished their essay. Guess what? The bell rang for recess and I had to do the spell-check. *long piak* They really know how to make my life so miserable. I was so mad you could actually see me burning with anger in the unrelenting heat of the summer sun.

But what's the big deal of a spell check? Sounds like I could get it done in no time, right? I mean, these are after all, English-speaking students from an English-speaking country and I, the Mandarin-speaking girl, would probably a) needed help from them or b) fail to find the spelling errors, right? I thought so too. But heck no.

In just the first paragraph alone there were tons and tons of spelling errors, punctuation errors and grammatical errors. -_-" You'd think these people were really trying to give me a miserable time. They didn't even bother putting punctuation marks actually...and they practically used SMS or IM-ing spellings for a quiz essay? I wonder if they really wanted an A or not. Another girl who was the editor said out loud, "See, this is why I totally said we should do it individually." Gosh, I am so glad there is a least one person in that class who understands me.

Which leads me to think about the teacher's job...isn't it tough for them? They have to grade these papers for real. With all the errors, the bad handwriting, the lack of punctuation marks, the slangs...wow, tough job. I suddenly understand why some teachers act like maniacs sometimes. If it were me, I think I'd be a first-class maniac alright.

Anyway, there is some good out of this. I now know for sure that I don't want to be a teacher. I simply lack the patience for it. I have a super low level of tolerance for such people. And the 2nd good thing that came out of it is, I now have newfound respect for teachers (esp. summer school teachers) for being able to sacrifice their precious Summertime for us.
