Job hunt update
Sooo, I finally got a call back from 2 job positions I applied to some time at the end of January and the beginning of February. Yay~ It's a good feeling to know that some resumés ARE being read and not tossed aside into oblivion.
I had a 30 minute phone interview this past Friday with very standard interview questions. Sadly, I didn't know how to answer one of them: "What do you say drives you to succeed?" I kind of went on some tangent on what I like about working hard, but basically the idea was that my drive is very intrinsic. I don't know why I enjoy it, I just know I do because it makes me feel accomplished, focused, and less stressed out. Is that a proper answer? I feel like as an Asian person, I was never really taught WHY we should succeed. It's more like a given. If you succeed, you have a better life, so my parents often focused on HOW we can succeed. I don't think it's much of a choice hahahaha.
On that note, interview questions are so meh. Can you really figure out how good a person is based on some structured set of answers? Anyway, if I pass this round, they will call me back for a second round of in-person interview. Wish me luck.
The other call back was from a position I half-heartedly signed up for just to test if restructuring my resumé would really garner any attention (not that this test is effective since there isn't any control test). When I was about to submit the application, they requested that I submit 3 recommenders' contact information, otherwise, my application would not be considered. I decided not to submit any names, simply because I wasn't sure how serious I was, and like I said, it was kind of a test. I did, however, end up submitting the application anyway since I spent a whole hour filling it out.
Lo and behold, I got a call back the same week the other position contacted me, so I'm scheduled for another interview. This interview, on the other hand, requires a 1.5 hour hands-on test, and a 20-30 minute panel interview. Just hearing "test" makes me wanna not go anymore...lol. I had no idea these people were so serious about the position...I feel like it would be such a shame to "waste" their time if I am not super serious. Yet, at the same time, I feel the interview experience would be a good opportunity.
In the meantime, the countdown to graduation is only 4 weeks from now. Things are getting real, real fast! I can't wait to close this chapter of my life (yet I am quite scared as well hahaha). Let's do this!
