Cooking frustrations

I HATE RAINY DAYS. I ALSO HATE TRAFFIC. And I especially HATE  a combination of RAIN + TRAFFIC. It's basically a formula for disaster. Tons of road accidents pop up left and right, and you'll start wondering if you'll ever get back home.

Part of my current anger stems from not being to coordinate dinner because of this freaking rain + traffic issue. I don't know why, but I really hate having to postpone cooking time repeatedly because of a change in schedule! Grrrrr. As if cooking is not hard enough as it is, having to coordinate WHEN to serve it piping hot is such a pain!

Okay, backtrack, what am I talking about here? Well, I had planned to make fried chicken for dinner tonight, and as you all know, fried chicken tastes best FRESH. Especially if you're trying to make super crispy Korean fried chicken with garlic soy sauce. Mmmm. Sounds fairly easy, right? But NOPE. Halfway into frying the chicken, I get a text from John saying that he'll be an hour late from his previous ETA because of the rain. But the chicken is already in the oil and will be done in 10 minutes, what am I supposed to do now? So, I took the half cooked chicken out and decided to put it back in an hour so when he gets home, the chicken will be just done (albeit a bit fail since its proper cooking time has been altered). Fast forward and hour later, I put the chicken in the hot oil again, I get another text saying he'll be another 30 minutes. FML.

I know this is a very trivial matter and first-world-problem-y, but humor me okay? As someone who likes to eat and is very particular about how things taste, cooking malfunctions like these bother me to no end. Imagine going to KFC and they served you cold, soggy chicken. Annoying, right? But at least you can get angry and yell (politely) at the manager about how upset you are, then they will fix the problem for you or give you a refund plus a coupon. But if I am the chef myself, WHO AM I SUPPOSED TO YELL AT WHEN THINGS GO WRONG? WHAT ABOUT THE MONEY I ALREADY SPENT ON THE FOOD?? Argggghhh~!!! Do you see my dilemma now?

Ahhh, so annoyed. Okay lah, I know it's my own fault for wanting to make fried chicken and you really can't blame the rain for delaying/changing cooking plans, but I just needed to vent. It is precisely because these things can't be controlled that I am so annoyed lolol. Cannot even get angry at anyone, what to do? Rage blog. Hahahaha.

Perhaps I'm being too unrealistic in trying to achieve good tasting food all the time, but at the same time I feel like if I'm going to spend the energy cooking, it better be good. Why spend energy on something sloppy? Might as well starve. LoL. Omg, I am the epitome of laziness + kiasu. Why am I so annoying.

Okay, I feel much better now and got yet another update that John is going to be home in 10 minutes or less. So I shall go back to cooking. Ciao~

I totally get that because I'm all about perfect timing and efficiency as well! But the tricky thing about food is that even a 10-minute delay means it won't taste AS good anymore, and it's not just one dish to cook. Also, this sem JW has taken to walking home so I can't rely on clockwork bus schedules either, so I've learnt to let go lol.

Hahaha, that is SO true! Good to know I am not the only one haha. I usually time the dishes such that when they're all done, they're pretty much still steaming hot. But yeah, if he comes home late then there really isn't much I can do. Sigh. I finally understand my mom's frustration when I wouldn't come to table on time when she said the food is ready.
